Why do I want it?

As a redhead, you probably already know that sunscreen is your best friend. But do you know the difference between chemical and physical sunscreens?

Chemical Sunscreens

If you've ever been instructed to wait 15 minutes before sun exposure after applying sunscreen, you've used a chemical sunscreen. When absorbed into the skin, chemical sunscreens convert UV rays into heat, which is then released from your skin. Because this reaction increases skin temperature, the chance of your skin becoming red and blotchy increases. What's worse is that most chemical sunscreens have been identified as endocrine disruptors, meaning they create hormonal imbalances and cause reproductive/fertility issues.

Physical (Mineral) Sunscreens

Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide are naturally broad-spectrum, providing protection from both UVA and UVB rays. These natural minerals sit atop the skin rather than being absorbed, hence the name “physical” sunscreen. Unlike the ingredients found in chemical sunscreens, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide have been identified as non-toxic by the Environmental Working Group.

Ginger Bonus: Mineral sunscreens are less likely to clog pores, cause redness, or generally irritate the skin.

Peptides

Peptides are amino acids that aid in collagen production, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The peptides chosen for this formula also help to replenish skin's surface and calm visible signs of irritation. They even aid in repairing sun-damaged skin.

Avocado Seed

While it should never be your sole source of protection, avocado seed oil can shield the skin from ultraviolet rays due to a high proportion of mono-saturated fats. Avocado seed extracts have also been found to reverse or manage the skin damage and inflammation caused by exposure to UV rays.

Grape Seed

Research shows that when grape seed extract is applied to skin prior to UV light exposure, the compounds may have a sunscreen effect, helping to reduce redness and damage to cells. Grape seed is also known for its ability to hydrate your skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
